Nappy Cakes: What Are They?

When I first heard about nappy cakes online I had little idea of what a nappy cake actually was, and thought to myself why would anyone want to eat a nappy or diaper cake? My girlfriend was rolling around the floor laughing as she knew that a nappy cake was not edible at all!

How nappy cakes or diaper cakes came about is from a clever Mother who was sick of not knowing what to buy for friends that were having babies and at the time all of her circle of friends were either pregnant of about to deliver. Rather than send flowers that die or buy a gift that didn’t look as expensive as it was she started looking at ways that she could make disposable baby nappies into layers of a cake.

She then decorated the layers with baby clothes, toys and must haves for newborns. She gave the nappy cakes to friends in hospital or had just come home from hospital and they were very well received and before too long she had orders for nappy cakes for not only baby boys and girls but also for luxury items to be included to spoil the new Mum.

From this good idea there were requests that came in for baby showers and she would go and prepare a centre piece where the shower was being held, and the nappy cake took pride of place in the centre of the table. And of course it received the normal oooh and arrhs from the guests. This only goes to show that a good idea can start anywhere and then be successful. I only wish it was me that had this idea to start with!
