Give Your Lady a Square Silk Scarf
Although most painted silk scarves come in the shape of a rectangle, a square silk scarf is also an excellent gift choice.
As was the case about 5,000 years ago, most silk production today occurs in China. Other countries like Thailand also produce a large quantity. Silk is a very durable and amazingly strong material. It absorbs and holds colors particularly well, and this accounts for its use in silk scarves and men’s ties, among many other things.
Artists who paint on silk need to apply special techniques. Since paints tend to run together after having been applied to the fabric, resists of different sorts are used to stop this from happening. Another interesting method is called salt resist painting, and in this case the salt absorbs some of the color in the fabric. The result is interesting variations in color which have a very attractive appeal.
Needless to say all these techniques can be applied to any kind of silk scarves be they rectangular or a square silk scarf.
