How To Gain Healthy Weight
While there seem to be a lot more people striving to lose weight, you may be among those who are doing everything they can to gain weight. Do not, however, make the mistake of just stuffing yourself with food indiscriminately. You may indeed put on pounds but it will be mostly from fat. As you increase your body fat you also increase your vulnerability to various diseases. Make sure that you gain only healthy weight by eating the right kind of food, building muscles and getting enough sleep.
You have to eat more to gain weight. You have to make sure that whatever your body burns as fuel is exceeded by your calorie intake. If it is difficult for you to take large meals, break these down into smaller meals but eat them more often throughout the day. You also have to make sure that you are eating in a way that builds muscle. Complete proteins like poultry, eggs, beef, pork and dairy products contain all the nine essential amino acids the body needs to build muscles. Complex carbohydrates and healthy fats provide the body with the energy that your metabolism burns to build muscles. Complex carbohydrates are whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Healthy fats are Omega 3 fats from deep sea fish and unsaturated fats like olive oil.
To ensure that the extra calories you take in are not converted to fat, embark on a strength training program. Make sure that you get the right guidance so that your workouts are appropriate to your current fitness level and your specific muscle building goals. To build the greatest muscle mass in the shortest time, use heavy free weights with low repetitions. The weight must be heavy enough that you cannot lift it more than four to eight times. This represents a huge enough challenge that will create microscopic tears in your muscle fibers. The muscles are therefore provoked to repair the damage and to build more muscles to prepare such a load.
Make sure that you get enough sleep, too. Your body is only able to do muscle repair and muscle building when it is in deep sleep. Also remember that your metabolism slows down when you are asleep. The longer you stay awake, the more calories your body is using up. You should, therefore, get a full eight hours of sleep every night.
You will not gain healthy weight overnight. Even if you follow the advice to eat properly, do muscle building workouts and get enough sleep you will still have to be very patient with your body. Do not get frustrated and be tempted to go back to unhealthy habits. Just be consistent with your program and you will slowly but surely see the results coming in.
