Christmas Decorating Ideas

I love this time of year –Christmas. It is a magical season where we get to decorate every room in the home and put out the Christmas lights. We get to dress up in our Santa costumes, too. At the center of the home, we place an artificial seven-foot pine tree and get the children to decorate it. Last year, it was Moulin Rouge party decorations theme. This year it was a “Go Green” theme, the children wanted to make new Christmas ornaments from household materials and recycled items.

I began looking for some Christmas decorating ideas visiting craft stores, regular stores and in magazines. Over the next couple of weeks my children helped collect a variety of items from milk cartons to water bottles. Along with my arts and crafts bag, my children were able to create their own ornaments and decorations.

Using carton boxes, the design of the decoration was created by tracing around cookie cutters. Beads and sequins were glued onto felt material. Old plastic balls were dipped in glue and sprinkled with glitter. To hang the ornaments, stings from potato bags were used. Old buttons were used to decorate the ornaments. Table favors using toilet paper rolls and ornaments out of egg cartons were also made and all from my children’s creative imagination.

Making your own Christmans ornaments and decorations is a wonderful way to personalize and dress up a your tree and spend quality family time !
