Choosing Nursing Clothes

If you are going to breastfeed your baby, you probably tried to think of all the things that you need to do this easily and comfortably. You probably got a pillow made to assist breastfeeding mothers, as well as a breast pump if you have to go back to work at some point. You may have a rocker, or a spot in your home that you know is going to be a comfortable place to feed your new baby. Have you thought about nursing clothes? The most common thing is the bra, but there are other things that you have to consider for both ease and comfort for you and your baby.

Your first thought for nursing clothes is understandably the nursing bra. This is designed so that you do not have to struggle with your bra when it is time to feed the baby. Since a new baby eats, on average, every two hours around the clock, you want something easy to maneuver. This is a lot of feeding. Not only do you want something that opens in the front, you also want something supportive and comfortable. Get more than just a few of these nursing clothing items as you are going to need them.

You have other concerns though, and nursing clothes can help you with these. If you love to wear t-shirts, you may want to put them away for a while and find some button down shirts. These are by far the best nursing clothes you can have while breastfeeding. Instead of having to take off your shirt, or having to pull it up around your neck, you can simply button down a few buttons to feed your baby. These come in many materials, so get one that feels comfortable. As with the bras, you want to have quite a few of these as you may go through them quickly while you get the hang of things.

You have to think about your jeans when it comes to nursing clothes items. Jeans are not always the best choice for nursing a baby. You may not be comfortable in them when you come home from the hospital, and the button on your jeans is in a bad spot, meaning it may rub on your baby. Sweats and even stretch pants are going to be your best friends for a while, or at least until your baby is a little older and a little bigger. You can’t always walk around in sweats for nursing clothes, but you can wear them while you are at home.

Many moms worry about looking frumpy and when they can start to feel like themselves again after giving birth. Nursing clothes are not always stylish, but you are going to want to be comfortable for you and your baby right off the bat. You will have time to start dressing up again and feeling better about how you look later, but you are going to find you are going to cherish those times in your nursing clothes. Babies grow so fast and the moments can be fleeting.
