Surprise At Jury Duty
Jury duty the other day… what more can I say? I have done this kind of rodeo before and never been selected to be on a jury. I saw something in the courtroom that I had not seen in the L.A. County I am living in though. There was a person in a wheelchair and the bailiff was showing them the jury booth and the new invisible chair lift the court installed a couple months back so I heard. It was neat to see because unless I had not seen or heard about this, I would not have known the lift was there to aid folks in wheelchairs to access the jury booth and the witness stand. I had seen ramps and all going up to the courthouse and inside, but I had not seen invisible lifts los angeles before.
I had gotten the inside scoop on handicapped aspects of this city when my mother came to visit. It was interesting to see the city through her eyes; what she is capable of doing and what limitations there are. Ever since her visit I have been aware of the city’s aspects for handicapped individuals. We went to visit some homes with residential elevators los angeles. She has been considering moving closer to me and my family down here. If I did not have the dream job I have always wanted down here, then I would likely be making the move up there to be closer to her. But while she is still on the younger side and able to move around by herself, it is the unspoken discussion we have had, that she should move while she still can. Then we can care for her as she ages here in L.A.
