Fall Decorating: Which Flowers Are Best?

Fall decor isn’t complete without flowers, but which should you choose? As a busy mother I don’t use fresh flowers, much as I adore them, I don’t have the time. My secret weapon is a large collection of silk hydrangeas which I use all year round. Pink, blue and white for spring and summer, deep red, brown and white for winter and fall. Silk hydrangeas look great at any time, but personally, I think they look best in fall floral arrangements

The best thing about silk hydrangeas is that they appear genuine, and since the blooms comes in such a lot of colors they are perfect for every season. In the Autumn I also enjoy the antique shades, with blues and purples mixed with green, or the silk flowers made to resemble their dried cousins; chocolate and deep orange hydrangeas, you can even find deep greens.

Huge heads make these easy flowers to use, all you have to do is cut the stems to size and add them to a low planter. If you can’t find anything suitable then a paint kettle from your local DIY store is pretty cheap, and can be spray painted any color to match your decor.

For fall, use deep colors, scarlet and burgundy, mixed with ribbons and fall foliage. You can add candles to the center of a low planter arrangement and use it in the center of your thanksgiving table.

Hydrangeas are not a traditional fall flower, but they certainly deserve to be!

Autumn Decorations

Autumn decorations can span the fall season through Halloween into Thanksgiving. With earth tone colors being an essence of autumn decorations and harvest memories being at the forefront, many of the decorations for fall have scenes of pumpkin fields or scarecrows standing in barren cornfields.

Autumn decorations are sometimes as covered with leaves as the ground. Falling leaves and the conflagrations of color they create as they change on the trees are symbolic of fall decorations. So are hay bales that have been cut and wrapped for the winter.

Indian corn, gourds, pumpkins, scarecrows—these are all a part of autumn decorations. Cornucopias filled with fruits freshly picked from the orchards also are symbolic of the fall decorations. So are tables with a turkey as the centerpiece and covered with fruits and vegetables from the harvest.

Fall decorations are commonly used to accentuate Halloween decorations and Thanksgiving decorations. The autumn decorations have indeed become an important part of these holidays.
