To keep my dogs healthy I do a number of basic things and I would like to discuss a few of them below for you. First of all I make sure that my German Shepherds are up to date on all of their shots and they also go see the veterinarian for yearly check ups and for any concerns I have with them as needed throughout the year.
Though children and puppies love to play with each other, it is never advisable to leave them alone as they may hurt each other unknowingly. You need to train the German Shepherd puppy to sleep only in the place you have provided.
If you do not want your dog to climb on to your bed or on your living room couch, it should be trained while it is still a puppy. The dog should also be trained to bark only necessary and not to be a nuisance to neighbors.
Whether your puppy is suffering from any illness or not, you should periodically take your dog to a vet and ensure he or she is in good health. This may be expensive but believe me, your German Shepherd dog is worth every penny that you will be spending on them and some more.
They are given heart worm and flea/tick preventives monthly – and I do this religiously too. I always feed my dogs a high quality healthy diet and I always make sure that they have access to clean drinking water – and this is one of those things that I just consider a normal thing that everyone should do. It’s a shame that some people just don’t get it but this is just basic pet care 101.
One of my dogs tends to get a little over weight pretty easily so I keep a close eye on his weight to make sure he isn’t getting a little too hefty! He really loves his food and treats and we have to keep track of what he eats to make sure he doesn’t pick up extra pounds. And one of the things I enjoy doing is to exercise them daily. In fact, we go on a 3 mile walk everyday and they both look forward to this.
